I, like 1500 lucky few, had the pleasure of attending the first Editions.dev in Toronto on June 25, 2024. I also enjoyed attending the Gadget x Mantle Pre/ditions event held the day before.

In this blog, I will discuss these events, what I wanted to get out of them, and some key takeaways.

Pre/ditions

Pre/ditions was held at the Drake hotel in downtown Toronto. It was about 200 people, and it really felt as if it was the best 200 people in the Shopify community.

What I wanted from it

Shopvana has a good relationship with the leadership at Gadget.dev, so my only intention for the event was to participate in the event I know they worked very hard on, and meet other very talented Gadget developers.

Key takeaways

Mantle is rolling out with incredible Managed Billing. I will probably make a blog about it once I implement it into all of my apps because their demo at the event was quite incredible. (And it did not break even though the demo was live!)

Editions.dev

The next day was the main event, Editions.dev. This one definitely felt 10 times bigger than the Pre/ditions.

What I wanted from it

I honestly did not know what to expect. I had a hard time choosing which talks to go to since they all looked very interesting.

Key Takeaways

The day began with a giant presentation going over summer '24 editions. They emphasized how they are focusing on developer and merchant experience. Funnily enough though, when trying to showcase how easy the developer experience was, their live demo failed. It was a funny story that many people will tell for a long time I am sure. After this though, there were many things to do throughout the day. I went to the presentations and workshops that I thought were the most interesting, and they were, but the greatest thing was speaking with other like-minded devs. This community that has grown organically within Shopify is truly one of a kind.

Then came the afterparty at the Shopify offices, and Shopify definitely did not disappoint ;).
